Iridium’s PNT ASIC on the market in July; company weighing new satellites to boost positioning accuracy for GNSS backup

by Peter B. de Selding

LA PLATA, Maryland — Iridium Communications’ fledgling PNT service to provide a higher-power backup for GPS and other GNSS systems expects to roll out its dedicated ASIC this summer and the company is sticking with forecasts of $100 million or more in annual revenue by 2030.

But given the demand signals from chipset makers, and aware of the fast-changing competitive PNT environment, Iridium is now sketching plans to launch additional satellites to complement its 66-satellite constellation at 780 km in altitude, which covers the globe.
