Telesat CEO on newly financed Lightspeed constellation, the choice of MDA as prime, and the loss of priority ITU frequencies

TUPPER LAKE, NY — In February 2021 Telesat selected Thales Alenia Space as prime satellite contractor for the $5 billion Lightspeed broadband satellite constellation.

Then Covid, and supply-chain issues, and inflation, and the difficulties in raising export-credit-agency debt financing, and a revised Thales Alenia Space offer, and still more financing delays.
