Iridium confronts its own ‘Hello, Starlink’ moment, extends estimated constellation life 5 years, to ‘at least’ 2035

LA PLATA, Maryland — Mobile satellite service provider Iridium Communications Inc. quantified what it said is a temporary loss of maritime business to SpaceX’s Starlink broadband constellation, added five years to the expected useful life of its current satellite network and laid out its investment roadmap in 3GPP standards-based connectivity to future standard smartphones.
