Intelsat: Asia-Pacific linear pay TV still growing by 2.5%/year; we’re investing $2 billion in next-gen multi-orbit network

PARIS — Linear content distribution and pay-TV is still growing by 2.5% per year in the Asia-Pacific and will remain a core offering of satellite fleet operators like Intelsat for years to come, Intelsat Chief Executive Stephen Spengler said.

In India particularly, he said, a recent study of Indian consumers’ video viewing habits over a one-week period found that linear pay-TV accounted for 1 trillion minutes of viewing time, while over-the-top (OTT) streaming platforms logged 70 billion minutes.
