AST SpaceMobile forecasts commercial D2D service late this year; 12 launches planned between March and December

LA PLATA, Maryland — Startup satellite direct-to-device mobile services provider AST SpaceMobile, which has had trouble meeting its previous deployment forecasts, said it will launch at least 45 of its BlueBird Block 2 satellites this year, with the cadence increasing as it moves to stacking multiple satellites on each of its selected launch vehicles.

AST, which in 2025 began generating revenue from shipping gateway Earth stations to its mobile network operator (MNO) partners and from the US government’s use of in-orbit capacity, is counting on 2026 as its breakout year . . .
