BRUSSELS — Airbus Defence and Space Chief Executive Michael Schoellhorn had the stage all to himself Jan. 28 at the 18th European Space Conference here and could have defended the proposed merger of the Airbus, Thales and Leonardo space divisions any way he wanted.
In the event, Schoellhorn inadvertently veered close to making the case that the merger is no longer needed given the large funding commitments Europe’s governments have made to the space sector in recent months.
