Amazon Leo asks FCC for 2-year deadline extension, buys 10 SpaceX Falcon 9s, evokes prototype mission anomalies

LA PLATA, Maryland — Amazon Leo was never going to meet its July 30 deadline to deploy 50% of its 2,232-satellite broadband constellation. The only question was when it would acknowledge this fact to US regulators and request an extension.

The request was submitted Jan. 30 to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The document includes a few surprises, including that Amazon Leo in late 2025 purchased an additional 10 SpaceX Falcon 9 launches to add further margin to its deployment schedule . . .
