EU Commissioner: National European military space investment is ‘a challenge’ and must be interoperable with EU capacity

BRUSSELS — European Defense and Space Commissioner Andrius Kubilius said rising investment in military and dual-use space capacity among individual European governments poses the risk of duplicating developments at the European level without increasing Europe’s overall resilience.

In Jan. 27 remarks here at the 18th European Space Conference, Kubilius said that at the least, these national efforts must be made interoperable with European programs including the future intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance constellation EOGS and the future Iris2 secure connectivity network.
