Thuraya: 2d-generation mobile satcom network to mirror 1st: L-band only, GEO orbit, regional coverage; Airbus to build it

CARSAC DE GURSON, France — Established mobile satellite services provider Thuraya of the United Arab Emirates and its owner, UAE-based fixed satellite services fleet operator Yahsat, have contracted with Airbus Defence and Space to purchase a Thuraya 4 L-band satellite to launch in 2024 to replace the Thuraya 2 at 44 degrees east.

The contract is part of a $500 million investment into Thuraya that includes an upgraded ground segment, a renewed product portfolio. The investment will be increased to purchase a second satellite from Airbus . . .
