Spire buys Ku-band tech and frequency rights from Kepler for 3 satellites, and options for up to 50

PARIS — Small-satellite multi-payload constellation operator Spire Global has agreed to purchase Ku-band spectrum access from Canada’s Kepler Communications and to test it on three Spire satellites to launch in 2023, with an operation of expanding to up to 50 satellites.

Under the contract, Spire will make use of Ku-band spectrum already filed with global frequency regulators, and also use Kepler’s ground support network.
