TUPPER LAKE, NY — The 32-nation NATO alliance announced multiple new joint space technology initiatives at its July 7 summit in Ankara, including HALO, the Hybrid Alliance Layered Operations in space.
HALO is a proposed mega-constellation using NATO members’ national satellite capacity and commercial satellites. Whether it would replace or exist alongside the NATO NSS6G program, where several nations lease satcom capacity to NATO, is unclear.
Also unclear is whether HALO would include the Arctic telecommunications project, called Northlink.
