LA PLATA, Maryland — Italy’s Leonardo SpA outlined how its planned Guardian constellation of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance satellites will integrate into the company’s planned Michelangelo Dome missile-defense network as well as serving commercial and civil markets.
Leonardo and the Italian government are pitching Michelangelo Dome as a network of networks, with other European nations contributing their own missile-defense architectures, with all of them interoperable through open-architecture software and a Leonardo-developed plug-in module called MC5.
