BRUSSELS — European Commission officials have made clear they want to be more involved in Europe’s launch-service sector beyond the Commission’s status as Europe’s largest launch customer. But they aren’t sure how to go about it.
Especially now that the crisis in European launchers appears resolved, with the Ariane 6 heavy-lift and Vega-C medium-lift vehicles in service, and a slate of startup launchers being groomed by the European Space Agency (ESA), the Commission’s future role is unclear.
