Canadian military outlines ‘profound shift’ coming in Canada’s space posture with multi-year $18.8-billion budget

LA PLATA, Maryland — Canada’s plan to spend 26 billion Canadian dollars $18.8 billion) on military space programs in the coming years — formally 20, but military officials say they’ve been asked to compress it into a shorter period — is designed to transform Canada’s posture with respect to its NATO and NORAD commitments.

Investments have been specified in nine areas including satellite communications; space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; space- and ground-based space domain awareness and a domestic space-launch capability.
