Spire launches two 6U satellites with in-house-designed optical inter-satellite links co-financed with UK, ESA

PARIS — Satellite multimission constellation operator Spire Global has launched two 6U cubesats into low Earth orbit that will use optical inter-satellite links to exchange more than 1 gigabyte of data during the brief periods when they are within line of sight contact, speeding delivery to customers.

The two satellites were among the 72 payloads launched June 12 aboard the SpaceX Transporter-8 ride-share mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
