ITU wants details before OK’ing deadline extension for Oman satellite; Oman signs MoU with Airbus for Sept 2028 launch

LA PLATA, Maryland — International regulators have declined to approve the latest request by the Sultanate of Oman to extend the deadline to deploy a place-holder satellite at 73.5 degrees east pending further documentation from Oman to justify the latest launch delay.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations Board (RRB) in July had already extended, to December, its previous deadline for Oman to occupy the slot for at least 90 days, thereby registering it for three years under ITU’s “bringing into use” rules: become a subscriber!
