Hughes, in breakthrough contract, to provide Ka-band Wi-Fi service to 400+ Delta Air Lines regional jets

LA PLATA, Maryland — In a closely watched competition, Delta Air Lines has selected Hughes Network Systems to provide Ka-band Wi-Fi connectivity on more than 400 Delta Boeing 717 and other regional jets in the Americas, with installations to start in mid-2024.

It is Hughes’s first in-flight-connectivity (IFC) contract signed directly with an airline, and is proof of the dynamism of the Ka-band IFC ecosystem, which competitor Viasat Inc. has made a priority for its Ka-band fleet.

Hughes and Viasat both are prioritizing markets other than consumer . . .
