BridgeComm, Mynaric, Ramon.Space debate Starlink, Space Development Agency effects on optical terminal market

LA PLATA, Maryland — Satellite optical hardware builders Mynaric and BridgeComm and in-orbit computer-processing startup Ramon.Space debated whether vertically integrated mega-constellations Starlink and maybe Project Kuiper, and the standards-setting goal of the U.S. Space Development Agency (SDA), are good for the technology’s growth.

It cuts both ways.

Starlink is designing its own optical communications terminals (OCTs), so it’s not stimulating the growth of an industry. That could limit the speed of OCT innovation. Amazon’s plans for Project Kuiper . . .
