Viasat looks past financially stressed satellite market; wants a word with Google, Amazon on customer priorities

PARIS — Chapter 11 bankruptcies at Intelsat, OneWeb and Speedcast, the financial stresses of Gogo and Global Eagle Entertainment, competing with Hughes Network Systems and the stubborn ROIC issues with LEO broadband: Viasat Chief Executive Mark Dankberg was feeling expansive and touched on all of them in a May 27 investor conference with AllianceBernstein.

The bottom line: It’s good to be in broadband, and especially good not to be in satellite broadcast; good to be vertically integrated and not . . .
