Thales Group: All indications are that Telesat is still actively working to secure Lightspeed constellation debt financing

TUPPER LAKE, NY — Thales Group Chief Executive Patrice Caine said his company has seen no sign that satellite fleet operator Telesat has abandoned the $5 billion Lightspeed broadband constellation despite the apparently stalled efforts to secure debt financing.

Thales Group is majority owner of space hardware builder Thales Alenia Space, which Telesat selected as Lightspeed prime contractor in February 2021. Covid supply-chain bottlenecks, the tightening of credit and a spike in inflation have all worked to delay the contract’s signing.
