SpaceX Starlink: We’ll stay direct-to-consumer, at least in U.S.; work continues on lowering user terminal cost

PARIS — SpaceX’s Starlink broadband satellite service, now in beta testing with selected customers, will retain its direct-to-consumer business model without using intermediaries but may use distribution partners in other countries.

Starlink’s initial pricing — $100 per month and $499 to purchase the Starlink user terminal — is not a beta-only introductory price but reflects what pricing will be in the full commercial service, Starlink Vice President Jonathan Hofeller said.
