SES buys DRS US government satellite-service business, which hasn’t been much of an SES customer

PARIS — SES is buying DRS Global Enterprise Solutions (GES), the largest commercial satellite services provider to the U.S. government, on the assumption that it will be able to persuade GES to purchase much more SES satellite capacity than it has in the past without compromising GES’s perceived neutrality among its customers.

Given SES’s reach with its GEO and, through O3b, medium-Earth-orbit fleets and SES’s existing Government Solutions business, it is surprising that GES’s current $100 million in annual spending on satellite capacity . . .
