Italian military commits $193 million for design/early development of two Sicral 3 telecommunications satellites

PARIS — The Italian Defense Ministry has contracted for the early development of two military telecommunications satellites to provide SHF- and UHF-band continuity with current spacecraft, with addition of a Ka-band payload.

The contract, valued at 159 million euros ($193 million), covers the design and early hardware development of the Sicral 3A and 3B satellites, up to the program’s critical design review.
