German launch startup Isar raises $91M; Germany tells ESA, EU Commission: Make room at the launcher table

PARIS — Startup small-satellite launch service provider Isar Aerospace of Germany’s $91 million Series B fund raise and recent German government comments suggest Germany wants to confront Italy’s Avio and its Vega rocket head-on.

This will cause stomach upset in France and Italy, and also at the 22-nation European Space Agency (ESA), all of which are struggling to find the needed monies to maintain the financial equilibrium of the future heavy-lift Ariane 6 and medium-lift Vega-C rockets.
