French CNES budget up 16.6% in 2024; growth driven by economic-stimulus programs; small launchers a priority

PARIS — The budget of the French space agency, CNES,  is increasing by 16.6% in 2024, with much of the growth driven by special government economic-stimulus initiatives that include investment in the space sector.

Europe’s largest space agency has been given partial responsibility for guiding these stimulus monies toward startups. CNES’s three-year performance review by the government includes figures on startup investment and specifically in investment in small launch vehicles.
