For Rocket Lab right now, launches are a loss leader and Space Services is the profitable business

PARIS — Rocket Lab USA Inc. has renegotiated a contract with Planet Labs by adding a fourth launch to the deal and winning price increases on the three remaining missions but is still deep under water on the contract.

The contract dates from 2016, when Rocket Lab was offering introductory pricing. Planet purchased three dedicated missions for $3 million each.

The first launch occurred in October 2020. At the end of that year, Rocket Lab booked a provision for $5.109 million, which was its estimated . . .
