LA PLATA, Maryland — The European Commission’s proposed EU Space Act, published June 25 after more than a year’s delay, appears to cover all the bases of space safety and security — environmental impact, debris mitigation, cybersecurity protection and cost compensations for startups — but with a light touch.
The Commission said it expects that most major non-EU spacefaring nations’ existing laws will be OK with the Commission and that there will be many “equivalence” rulings, a kind of cross waiver for mutual acceptance of their space-conduct rules . . .
