PARIS — The European Space Agency is buying three more service modules for NASA’s Orion crew-transport vehicle for the Artemis lunar exploration program, and is paying about 16% less per module than it paid the last time it purchased a single unit.

The latest contract with Airbus Defence and Space is valued at 650 million euros ($791 million) for European Service Modules (ESM) 4-6. The modules themselves account for around 630 million euros of that sum, or 210 million euros per copy.
