EchoStar’s Hughes, a year away from Jupiter 3 satellite’s arrival, loses consumer subs, focuses on thriving enterprise market

LA PLATA, Maryland — EchoStar Corp.’s Hughes satellite broadband hardware and services division has lost nearly 19% of its consumer subscribers, and the EBITDA margin that goes with them, in the past two years, a downward trend not likely to ease before late 2023 at the earliest.

But the company’s enterprise division, with lower gross margins but also much lower capex, is flourishing and is now the focus for growth, EchoStar Chief Executive Hamid Akhavan said.
