PARIS — The French government, which like its U.S. counterpart is awash in satellites and rockets but has been slow to encourage satellite broadband deployment despite a domestic digital divide, may have turned the corner with a new investment of 100 million euros ($118 million).
Announced Dec. 14 by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, the investment will be available starting in mid-2019 for the estimated 1.5 million to 2 million French homes in regions that will not be connected by fiber anytime soon.
