Airbus says market interest in its new flexible telecom satellite design is even stronger than expected

WASHINGTON — Airbus Defence and Space expressed remarkable confidence that its OneSat software-defined satellite design, whose inaugural, three-satellite order with Inmarsat finishes its critical design review this month, will be a hit with global telecommunications satellite fleet operators.

Airbus is one of several manufacturers building satellites that are smaller than their usual geostationary-orbit products and can be built in 18 months for about $100 million. Fully reconfigurable in orbit, they are built to be moved from one orbital slot to another and to reshape their coverage areas . . .
