Gogo presses its Ku- case vs Hughes/ViaSat Ka-band satellites for in-flight connectivity over hub cities

WASHINGTON — Satellite and terrestrial in-flight-connectivity (IFC) provider Gogo made a detailed case to investors, defending the company’s choice of Ku-band over Ka-band and arguing that no Ka-band system can match the capacity Gogo can train over a given hub city.

It is an ongoing debate between the half-dozen IFC providers: Which system best combines the broad-area coverage airlines demand, while at the same time concentrating capacity over metropolitan areas with 100 aircraft in the vicinity at the same time?
