LA PLATA, Maryland — Thuraya L-band mobile satellite service operator Space42 of Abu Dhabi and satcom software provider Gatehouse Satcom of Denmark said they have successfully demonstrated 5G narrowband connectivity between Thuraya’s geostationary-orbit satellite and multiple smartphones and IoT devices.
Space42 said the tests were successful enough for the company to launch its Thuraya Direct direct-to-device (D2D) messaging and IoT service later this year.
