Yahsat/Thuraya on AST SpaceMobile threat: ‘Their probability of success is not high’

PARIS — Of all the disruptions to arrive on the wave of investment in New Space, the promise of a 4G/5G link to an unmodified smartphone directly from a satellite, anywhere on Earth, may be the most daring.

That is the promise of AST SpaceMobile, which went public in April and as of Dec. 13 had a market value of $1.5 billion.

For every disrupter, there are the disrupted. In this case, these would include mobile satellite service providers Inmarsat, Globalstar, Iridium and Yahsat’s Thuraya . . .
