When it rains, it pours: Maxar’s SSL GEO satellite builder copes with supplier defect alongside market collapse

MANCHESTER, England — Maxar Technologies’ SSL commercial geostationary-orbit satellite communications business, already suffering from a global market decline and being now readied for a sale or shutdown, has suffered a further setback with defective components from a key supplier.

Maxar Chief Executive Howard L. Lance did not name the supplier or the components but said they had been integrated into numerous SSL satellites, forcing rework that has added to the financial distress at SSL from the collapse in the GEO satellite market.
