US Naval Research Lab invites new satellite laser terminal builders to use its test facilities

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California — The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is inviting new designers of satellite laser communications terminals to use NRL's technical capacity, notably its test bed, to prove out their technologies’ interoperability with competitors’ products.

NRL has been working with the U.S. Space Development Agency (SDA) to prove out laser communications terminals (LCTs) built by four manufacturers selected for SDA’s proliferated-LEO constellation of missile-defense and data-transfer constellations.

That work continues, but NRL does not want to stop there.
