UK Parliament chides government on OneWeb Soyuz reliance, hopes UK domestic launches will help

PARIS — Britain’s industry minister responsible for space said the removal of Russia’s Soyuz rocket as a launch option for the OneWeb broadband constellation is an example of why Britain needs a domestic space-launch capability.

George Freeman, parliamentary under secretary for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which manages Britain’s 19%, soon to be 17%, OneWeb equity stake, said a domestic launch option would have made the post-Soyuz transition easier.
