Thales Group reports sharp drop in space business, sees no recovery in 2020; make-or-break time for Thales Alenia Space

PARIS — Thales Group is facing a reorganization of its space division in the coming months unless manages to win one of the major contracts for which it is competing.

The performance of the company’s broad range of space businesses — satellites of all kinds, orbital infrastructure for the International Space Station, ground communications equipment — has been hit by the same forces that have buffeted most of the major contractors exposed to the commercial satellite market.
