Eutelsat to lease 50% of Thaicom’s future 100-Gbps software-defined satellite to operate at 119.5 degrees east

UPDATE Aug.7: Thaicom and Eutelsat said they had agreed to a joint venture in which  Eutelsat would lease 50% of the capacity of a software-defined, high-throughput satellite to operate from Thaicom's 119.5 degrees east orbital slot. Each company will market 50 Gbps of capacity. Eutelsat's lease would continue for the satellite's full 16-year orbital life, the two companies said.

Thaicom had said in June that the satellite, to operate in Ku-band, would cost $238.3 million. Its Aug. 7 statement said it is "finalizing the procurement process . . .
