Stratobus team, with a settled design, sees first market as persistent border/maritime surveillance

PARIS — The French industrial team that has spent 2.5 years and the better part of $50 million to design a stratospheric dirigible for regional Earth observation and telecommunications has completed the system’s design and begun pitching it to European defense authorities.

Led by Franco-Italian space hardware manufacturer Thales Alenia Space, the Stratobus group has concluded that the technology’s most likely early adopters will be security and military applications for maritime and border surveillance.
