SpaceX wins $885.5 million FCC award to provide broadband to 642,925 sites in 35 US states over 10 years

PARIS — The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) awarded $9.2 billion in contracts to 180 bidders to provide broadband access to 5.2 million U.S. homes and businesses over 10 years, with SpaceX’s Starlink awarded $885.5 million in contracts to provide 642,925 locales in 35 states.

That works out to $1,377.50 per site over 10 years — not a massive incentive, although SpaceX may be able to front-load its payment collection by being able to deploy to all its selected sites well . . .
