Omnispace: Global regulators making way for more satellite S-band spectrum, needed for direct-to-cell

LA PLATA, Maryland — Startup satellite IoT constellation operator Omnispace LLC, broadening its ambition to include direct-to-smartphone (D2D) services, said the recent World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23) of global regulators agreed to consider expanding S-band spectrum allocations at its next conference, in 2027.

Mindel De La Torre, Omnispace’s chief regulatory and international strategy officer, said the WRC-23 decision permit the company to target the D2D market alongside its longstanding IoT goal.
