Nominee for presidency of France’s CNES favors Airbus-Thales consolidation, says it won’t become European SpaceX

LA PLATA, Maryland — François Jacq, nominated by French President Emmanuel Macron to be the next president of the French space agency, CNES, defended the proposed merger of the space activities of Airbus, Thales and Leonardo as a necessary consolidation of European capacity.

In separate sessions April 29 with the French National Assembly and Senate, Jacq said the goal of the consolidation could not be to create a European equivalent to SpaceX, which he said was not feasible. Instead . . .
