Mega-constellations of satellites seen as a difficult sell to debt markets

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California — OneWeb’s difficulty in closing its debt financing is indicative of the problems that other multibillion-dollar mega-constellations of satellites will have unless they can show solid customer commitments, financial analysts said.

While not mentioning OneWeb by name, analysts said the debt markets are using a sharper pencil than they used to in assessing project-finance credibility.

Among the large megaconstellations of satellites, including those being designed by Telesat Canada, LeoSat and SpaceX, OneWeb’s is the furthest along. Its first 10 satellites are scheduled . . .
