ITU chief, in a first, opens talks with ESA, NASA on orbital debris, collision risk

PARIS — In a first-ever meeting of power with expertise, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the 22-nation European Space Agency (ESA) have opened a dialogue on the broad subject of space sustainability, a including space debris, orbital-shell carrying capacity and collision risk.

A series of meetings is planned between the two agencies. In parallel, the ITU has opened a similar line of communication with NASA, ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin said here Sept. 11.
