SINGAPORE— It has been four years since the Indian government established an autonomous agency within India’s Department of Space to stimulate private-sector space activities and reduce licensing red tape.

How has it gone so far?

In 2023, the government modified its telecom regulations to ensure administration allocation of satellite spectrum — a victory for the satellite sector, which had feared an auction. But what about the broader reform effort to reduce government omnipresence and make room for the private sector?
