French space industry revenue fell 25% in 2020; Gifas trade group, like ESA, treads lightly on micro-launcher terrain

PARIS— France’s space industry reported a 25% decline in revenue in 2020 and the outlook for 2021 remains difficult as the satellite sector’s apparent recovery is offset by continued launch-service challenges, according to the French aerospace industries association, Gifas.

French satellite builders, led by Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space, booked nine geostationary-orbit satellite orders in 2020 in addition to European government business.
