French president endorses Airbus, Thales, Leonardo space merger, says Eutelsat OneWeb is ‘a strategic treasure’

PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron emphatically endorsed the proposed merger of the space divisions of Airbus, Thales and Leonardo as  “absolutely essential” and said satellite fleet operator Eutelsat is “a strategic treasure” that the government would shepherd to growth as a customer, investor and international promoter.

It was clear that at least on Macron’s watch, Eutelsat and OneWeb will not be allowed to flag or fail. Investors got the message: Eutelsat shares were up 30% in Euronext trading July 20 and up . . .
