Eutelsat invests another $165M into OneWeb, now has 22.9%, second to Bharti’s 30%; clear message to European Commission

PARIS — Satellite fleet operator Eutelsat has increased its stake in the OneWeb satellite broadband constellation to 22.9% by taking a portion of a call option subscribed by OneWeb’s biggest shareholder, Bharti Global.

Eutelsat is paying Bharti $165 million to raise Eutelsat’s OneWeb ownership from 17.6% to 22.9%, second only to Bharti’s 30%.

The transaction, announced Oct. 6, comes after Eutelsat Chief Executive Rodolphe Belmer pitched OneWeb to the French parliament as a European asset that may be . . .
