EU GovSatCom budget, now modest, is unlikely to rise, but ESA to ask its governments for parallel effort

PARIS — European government officials agreed that the European Commission’s proposed GovSatCom program is far too modest to accomplish much but should be seen as the thin end of a wedge to a larger effort.

They also said pockets of additional funding — at the commission, at the 22-nation European Space Agency (ESA) or within national governments — likely will be available to expand the work.
